Beadmaking
Osuofia is off thebeaten path to say the least. At the end of a long journey we made it the small village and were generously instructedin all things bead related. Glass beads are created by crushing bottles (recycling at it's most beautiful), filling a handmade clay mold with colored powder, and baking the mold until the beads are formed. Clay beads are formed with clay from the nearby river and carved and molded with different instruments. This instruction was given by a wonderful Ghanaian woman who showed us the most gorgeous display of necklaces and bracelets one could ever imagine. It was truly unforgettable.

ReplyDeleteI am honored to read your posts. I've just read through them all, and though I know I haven't been on a grueling plane ride, your writing makes me feel like I am there with you. How are you both managing with the climate? What are the nights like? It's been crazy hot here. I've been calling it Massatexas. Any intersting seasoning or beverages?
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to write and for being our tour guide. Have you already begun planning the expedition for bringing the students to Ghana - come on Beth, it must have crossed your mind. I'm interested in reading more about the clothes, differences between men and woman, boys and girls, the impact of fair trade on the lives of folks on the farms and the communities in which they exist. How are you guys sleeping, well? sounds like you sure have an opportunity to get tired.
Looking forward to reading your next post
